Six reasons owners return
These are not promises made on a brochure — they are the everyday working practices of the Escapement workshop.
Written before work begins
Every assessment ends with a written estimate. Nothing starts without your agreement.
Full completion records
A written record of parts used, work done, and findings observed is provided on collection.
Informed at every stage
Restoration owners are updated whenever something meaningful is discovered or decided.
Originality respected
Vintage pieces are not over-polished or over-restored. Character is preserved wherever sensible.
Calibrated equipment
Timing and cleaning tools are maintained on schedule. Results are verified before each piece leaves the bench.
Secure at all times
Pieces are individually logged on arrival and stored securely throughout their time with us.
In Depth
What each benefit means in practice
Watchmaking knowledge from formal training
The workshop principal trained in Switzerland and has worked specifically on mechanical and automatic movements for well over a decade. That background informs every assessment — not just the final recommendation, but the questions asked along the way.
Vintage work requires a particular sensitivity. Parts are often scarce, and improper handling can diminish both the function and the value of a piece. We approach older movements with the kind of patience that formal training tends to build over time.
- Formal watchmaking education, Swiss-trained principal
- 10+ years focused on mechanical movements
- Specialist knowledge of vintage Swiss and Japanese calibres
- Active participation in regional horological networks
- Condition logged on arrival, not recalled from memory
- Written estimate shared before any work starts
- Progress updates for restorations and longer assessments
- Completion record handed over with the piece
A process built around the owner's involvement
From the moment a watch arrives, the owner is part of the process. Condition is logged. Findings are written down and explained. Agreement is required before any work begins. Updates come at meaningful points, not at the end.
This approach takes a little longer to set up than simply opening a movement and starting. But it produces a very different result — one where the owner leaves knowing exactly what was done to their watch and why.
Communication that keeps pace with the work
Watch owners are often emotionally attached to their pieces — particularly inherited or collected watches. Keeping that person informed is not an administrative nicety. It is part of treating the commission seriously.
We respond to enquiries within one working day. Restoration clients are updated when something changes or when a decision is needed. No-one is left wondering.
- Enquiries answered within one working day
- Owners contacted when scope or timeline changes
- Drop-off and collection by confirmed appointment
- English and Thai spoken at the workshop
- Assessment fee stated clearly before the appointment
- No hidden charges added after agreement
- Scope changes discussed and agreed before additional cost is incurred
- Transparent pricing in Thai Baht across all services
Pricing that is visible from the start
Each service carries a published starting price. The assessment fee is stated before the appointment. Restoration estimates are written and agreed before work begins. Additional costs arising from unexpected findings are discussed, not assumed.
Clear pricing isn't just courtesy — it's a mark of respect for the person who has entrusted you with something they care about.

What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive features of the Escapement approach
Sympathetic restoration methodology
Vintage pieces are restored to function, not to a showroom appearance. Original surfaces, patina, and markings are preserved wherever the owner values them.
Diagnostic-first philosophy
Every service relationship starts with understanding the piece fully before recommending any work. Assessment is a standalone service, not a sales step.
You can always walk away
After an assessment, you receive the written findings and you decide. There is no follow-up pressure, no obligation to continue, and no change to the assessment fee either way.
Three tightly scoped services
Rather than offering everything, Escapement focuses on three areas where the team has deep capability. Requests outside those areas are referred honestly rather than accepted poorly.
Central Bangkok, by appointment
The Ratchadamri workshop is easily reached via BTS. Drop-off and collection by appointment ensures the right person is available and no-one waits without reason.
English and Thai spoken
All estimates, records, and conversations can be handled in English or Thai. Expat owners and long-term residents find the workshop equally accessible.
